Dear Parent(s):
It was a pleasure meeting all of you during Parent/Teacher Conference week! The month of November is already half way over!
LA: Students are working in small group instruction centers, which are aimed at assisting them in specific need areas i.e., blending, comprehension, fluency, etc. We continue to work on five (5) Word wall words per week to help them expand their vocabulary for writing assignments. I sent home a green paper with the Spelling and Word Wall words for the next five stories (Theme 3) per your request. Please remind your child to take home their planner/agenda every night!
Math/TERC: We are currently on the second book – Coins, Coupons, and Combinations where the emphasis is on adding, subtracting, counting coins, trading or exchanging coins, doubles, and coupons. Please remember to Play Close to 20 whenever you get the chance, particularly this upcoming Thanksgiving break! Social Studies: The class is studying the Wampanoag Native Americans who are indigenous to the Delaware area – their houses, food, clothing, and beliefs. This coincides with the In-Class Native American Field Trip scheduled for this Friday, November 17, 2006. If you have not sent in the $7.00 it is not too late. Students will be able to see and touch Native American artifacts, be involved in storytelling, and create a piece of pottery.
We will be picking up Science after our return from the break.
Several parents during Conference week asked what else could they be doing at home to help their child be successful. One thing I suggest is to have them READ, READ, READ at least 20 – 30 minutes every night! The reading could include comic books, magazines, even catalogs. But remember, no matter how many times I read to them or read with them, they need to see you read too to know that reading is cool! Thank you so much for all your time and the great job you do with the class!
Happy Thanksgiving and count your blessings everyday –
Ms. Stokes
